Lingqu Canal, One of the Oldest Canals in the World

The Lingqu Canal, also called as Qinzao Canal, Dou Canal or Xing’an Canal in ancient times, is located in Xing’an County, Guilin. Excavated with the order from Emperor Qinshihuang (the 1st emperor of Qin Dynasty), it is an ancient canal completed in 214 B.C. with a history of more than 2200 years. It connects the Xiang River and Li River, joins the Yangtze River Basin and Pearl River Basin and links up Central China and Lingnan region. Today, the Lingqu Canal stands as an important cultural heritage and a multifunctional hydraulic project serving irrigation, flood control, water supply and tourism.
