XINGPING ANCIENT TOWN
Xingping, a Living Idyll
Initially settled in 265 A.D., Xingping town is about 63 km (39 miles) from Guilin and 25 km (15.5 miles) from Yangshuo on the east bank of Li River. Like Yangshuo, Xingping is surrounded by amazing Karst landscapes, among which Mural Hill (also known as Nine Horses Fresco Hill because of the naturally shaped images of nine horses in different positions on the cliff) and Yellow Cloth Shoal, which is the very place from where the background design on the CNY 20 banknote originates, are the most famous ones.
The historic sites here can be found in Xingping Old Street and Fishing Village about 2 km (1.3 miles) from the Xingping Town. The Fishing Village has a history of nearly 500 years with an architectural style the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The villagers there fish for a living with the help of cormorants. It’s not only an idyllic place to explore for tourists who are into in-depth tour, but a hot spot for shutterbugs to visit to create their master pieces.
