Industries of Mainland China and Nanjing

Mainland China is presently building its own semiconductor supply chains. As one of the flagship enterprises promoting and integrating semiconductor industry chains, Tsinghua Unigroup went to great length to improve the industry, and even had intended to purchase Powertech Technology Inc., ChipMOS Technologies Inc. and Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd. Though the business acquisition failed in the end, it surely captured much attention in the industry of Taiwan.

What's Happening in Nanjing and Elsewhere

Nanjing is now giving its full support to the semiconductor manufacturing industry, and consequently some remarkable achievements have been reached. For instance, last year Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited was persuaded to build a plant in Nanjing, which is the first TSMC 12-inch wafer plant in Mainland China. Till now, a semiconductor manufacturing chain has taken initial shape in Mainland China, including the TSMC plant and Tsinghua Unigroup, SMIC in Shanghai, Hejian Technology (Suzhou) Limited Company, the SK Hynix Semiconductor Inc. and STMicroelectronics joint-venture factory (Wuxi). Due attention is also essential to the future development of the chain.
